DC Entertainment has revealed that it will bring an extensive line up of top talent and creators to Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2).  The renowned comic book publisher is slated to participate in nine panels providing thousands of fans the opportunity to hear from some of the most famous artists and creators in the DC universe.  Many of these creators, as well as executives from the company, will also be on hand to meet with fans in the DC Entertainment booth, which will occupy 2500 square feet in a central location on the convention floor. The talent that is (so far) scheduled to appear at C2E2 includes: Franco Aureliani, Art Baltazar, Chris Burnham, David Finch, Patrick Gleason, Kevin Maguire, Sean Murphy, Jimmy Palmiotti, Gail Simone and Scott Snyder.  This does not include a number of top creators that DC will be bringing to the convention for BEFORE WATCHMEN, which has been announced in a separate release.

This year’s C2E2, which is produced by the organizers of New York Comic Con (NYCC), is expected to attract thousands of loyal fans making this convention the largest pop culture extravaganza in the Midwest.  It will take place April 13 – 15, 2012 in the North Building at the McCormick Place Convention Center.

“DC Entertainment has been a tremendous supporter of C2E2 ever since we launched the show in 2010,” notes Lance Fensterman, Group Vice President for ReedPOP and Show Manager for C2E2.  “We are honored that they bring such high caliber talent to our convention and this year is no exception.  I think their participation is a strong statement about how much they believe in our event, and how much they believe in Chicago and the Midwest as a center for pop culture activity and commerce.  DC is a pre-eminent publisher and they elevate dialogue and entertainment simply by being present and being involved.  We are pleased that they have elected to be so present and involved in C2E2.”

FRANCO AURELIANI has been drawing comics since he could hold a crayon in his little fingers. His credits for DC Comics include the Eisner Award-winning TINY TITANS, YOUNG JUSTICE and the upcoming SUPERMAN FAMILY ADVENTURES. In 1995, he founded Blindwolf Studios, an independent art studio where he and fellow creators like his superstar cartoonist buddy Art Baltazar create wonderful comics for all the kids. Franco is also the creator, artist and writer of WEIRDSVILLE, LIL CREEPS and EAGLE ALL STAR and the co-creator and writer of PATRICK THE WOLF BOY. Franco is also very tall.

ART BALTAZAR is a super-cartoonist from Chicago! His credits for DC Comics include the Eisner Award-winning TINY TITANS, YOUNG JUSTICE and the upcoming SUPERMAN FAMILY ADVENTURES. Additional credits include GORILLA GORILLA comics for Disney Adventures and PATRICK THE WOLF BOY comics from BlindWolf Studios. Aw Yeah Man!

DAVID FINCH launched his comics career on Top Cow Productions’ Cyberforce, where he started out assisting creator Marc Silvestri before graduating to full-time penciller in 1996. After co-creating the title Ascension and pencilling the first four issues of Aphrodite IX for Image, Finch went on to illustrate acclaimed runs on Ultimate X-MenThe New AvengersMoon Knight and Ultimatum for Marvel before being lured to DC by its siren Bat-song. A contributor to BATMAN #700 and penciller for the one-shot BATMAN: THE RETURN, Finch is currently writing and drawing the ongoing series BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT as well as crafting exquisite cover art for a host of DC titles. A proud Canadian, he makes his home on the snowy steppes of Ontario.

PATRICK GLEASON loves to create fantastic characters and the worlds they inhabit. His focus on character development and powerful storytelling can be found within the stories of many iconic characters including DC’s Batman and Robin, Green Lantern Corps, Aquaman, The Jusctie League, Martian Manhunter, Hawkman, and The JSA. His ground-laying work, alongside Geoff Johns, and Dave Gibbons on Green Lantern Corps mini-series RECHARGE made way for the acclaimed ongoing series. The Sinestro Corps War followed, and then culminated in the explosive Blackest Night with Peter J Tomasi. Along with DC Comics’ wildly successful New 52, Patrick continues to lend his artistic vision and work to the Dynamic Duo of Batman and Robin.

KEVIN MAGUIRE resents being known as the guy who draws “funny faces.” He draws expressive faces (thank you very much) on titles such as the various Justice League books of the 1980s, The Adventures of Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty, TEAM TITANS, Strike Back!, JLA: CREATED EQUAL, X-Men Forever, FORMERLY KNOWN AS THE JUSTICE LEAGUE, and The Defenders. OK… he draws funny faces too.

He also wrote and illustrated the original graphic novel Off Road.

GAIL SIMONE first caught the attention of the comics world on the world wide web, where her popular humor column “You’ll All Be Sorry!” was featured on Comic Book Resources.  It wasn’t long before she was tapped to write The Simpsons for Bongo Comics, which led to working in the mainstream for Marvel Comics as the writer on Deadpool.

Following her Marvel work, Simone began working for DC, where she is most known for her much-beloved run on BIRDS OF PREY.  She has continued to write for DC and its many imprints on titles that include ROSE AND THORN, ACTION COMICS, TEEN TITANS, SECRET SIX, THE LEGION, VILLAINS UNITED, JLA CLASSIFIED, THE ALL-NEW ATOM, GEN13, and her creator-owned title WELCOME TO TRANQUILITY. IDW and 2000 AD to Launch an All-New JUDGE DREDD Comic Book Series

IDW Publishing has partnered with 2000 AD to launch a line of Judge Dredd comics starting later this year.

Details and creative teams will be announced at a later date, but the partnership includes the creation of all-new Judge Dredd comics as well as deluxe reprints of classic Dredd material.

“Judge Dredd turns 35 this year, and it’s great to help him celebrate his birthday like this,” said Chris Ryall, IDW’s Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief. “It was great to meet up with the 2000 AD team at the recent London Super Con and cement the partnership on this one. My interest in Judge Dredd far predates my tenure at IDW, so it’s a real drokkin’ pleasure for us to now be the first American publisher in 18 years to create new tales of Dredd.”

Judge Dredd was created by writer John Wagner and artist Carlos Ezquerra, along with editor Pat Mills, and made his debut in the second issue of the science fiction anthology 2000 AD. He remains that title’s longest-running character and is one of the best-known British comic-book characters of all time.

“IDW are renowned for their ability to create new comics for existing characters with both respect and imagination,” said Jason Kingsley, CEO of Rebellion, “so we at Rebellion were intrigued when they approached us. Their familiarity with Dredd and passion for the character were vital components in making this partnership happen. With 2000 AD’s longest-serving, and multiple award-winning, editor Matt Smith working with IDW on establishing the new series, we’re delighted to make 2012 an even more spectacular year for Judge Dredd and 2000 AD.”

Dredd is the toughest Judge in Mega-City One, a city-state located on the East Coast of America and surrounded by radioactive wastelands in a dystopian future. With criminals, thugs and mutants swarming the streets, as judge, jury and executioner Judge Joseph Dredd delivers justice with exacting, and sometimes lethal, force.

In the character’s 35 years of existence, many of the biggest and best British comics creators have told his tales. 2012 also sees the release of a big-budget motion picture based on the lawman. Dredd stars Star Trek’s Karl Urban, who will be donning the helmet and wielding Dredd’s “Lawgiver” pistol.

IDW’s first Judge Dredd series will debut this fall. Until then, remember… he IS the law!

Comic-Con 2012 Second Chance Badge Resale

As you may be aware, badge sales on March 3rd did not proceed as we had hoped. All of us at Comic-Con have been working on trying to make registration as stress free as possible, even delaying badge sales to accommodate new and updated information. Obviously we still had issues that resulted in some people not being able to purchase the number of badges they had hoped. For those who missed an opportunity to purchase a badge due to the email link delay, we will have a very special second chance badge resale of returned and refunded badges!

The Comic-Con second chance resale will be open only to those who had a valid and confirmed Member ID as of February 29th, 2012. Additionally, anyone who has already purchased a 4-day badge (with or without Preview Night) or a Saturday badge will not be allowed to participate in this resale.  This special badge resale is only for those who missed a chance at purchasing a badge, not those who wish to upgrade or change their badge selections.

The purpose behind not allowing anyone who purchased a Saturday badge to participate is that Saturday badges were the first single day badge to sell-out, so those who purchased a Saturday badge had the opportunity to purchase a Thursday, Friday, and/or Sunday badge during the online sale, but voluntarily chose not to. This special second chance resale is only for those who did not already have the option to purchase all 4 days.

The special resale will begin on March 27th, 2012 at 8:00 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time (PDT). There will be no link provided on our website or any social media sites to access the sale directly. Comic-Con cannot however, stop people from posting this link if they receive this email. Posting this link will only decrease your own chances of obtaining a badge by encouraging people to access the waiting room even though they do not have a qualifying Member ID.

The link for this resale is: — Check Your Email! The link is not posted here. —

Please note, this link will not be active until 8:00 a.m. PDT. If you click this link early, you will receive a “404 – NOT FOUND” error page and you will need to close your browser window and click the link again at or after 8:00 a.m. PDT.  We recommend that you bookmark this link prior to the sale, copy and paste it into your browser, or manually type in the URL.

The badge purchase process will be exactly the same as the March 3rd sale, however, you will only be able to register up to TWO people total during your online registration session, and you must have the unique Member ID and last name for each individual.

To verify the Member ID and last name you should use to sign-in to the EPIC online badge system, please visit https://secure2.comic-con.org/memberid/ and login to your Member ID account. Your correct EPIC login info will be displayed at the top of the page.

Please keep in mind that returned and refunded badge inventory is very limited. There are more single day badges available than 4-day badges. Although we would like to accommodate everyone who wants to attend, Comic-Con in no way guarantees that you will be able to obtain your desired badge category during this resale.

Comic-Con will also sell additional returned badges sometime after the refund deadline date of May 15, 2012.

Please direct all questions regarding this special badge resale to attendeereg@comic-con.org.

This email pertains to attendee badge purchases only. If you do not intend on purchasing a badge during online resales, please disregard this message. This message is not related to Professional, Volunteer, Exhibitor, Press, or Program Participant Registration. For all other inquiries regarding the registration departments above, please visit www.comic-con.org

You are receiving this email because you have signed up for a Comic-Con Member ID. If you would like to opt-out of these reminders please visit https://secure2.comic-con.org/memberid/ and login to your Member ID account. Comic-Con 2012 Hotel Reservations Will Open March 29 at 9:00am Pacific Time

Important note: We are offering a “sneak peek” at the hotels in our block and their rates and shuttle availability online at www.comic-con.org/cci/cci_ hotel.php, but HOTEL RESERVATIONS DO NOT OPEN UNTIL MARCH 29, 2012 at 9:00 AM Pacific time (12:00 PM Eastern time). You cannot request your hotel through the Comic-Con reservation service at these special rates until then. This information is presented early to allow you to be better prepared when the reservation process goes live on that day.

As you may know from past experience, Comic-Con’s discounted hotel rates means rooms sell out very quickly. This year we have come up with a number of solutions that we think will help the reservation process:

  • There are more hotel rooms available than ever before. Many of them are on the Comic-Con Shuttle routes.
  • Once confirmed, all hotel reservations will require a deposit of two nights’ room and tax for each room booked. This will encourage people to release unwanted rooms in advance so people on the wait list can reserve them.
  • Hotel reservation deposits are fully refundable until May 4, 2012.
  • For cancellations from May 5 to June 1, 2012, a cancellation fee equal to one night’s room and tax will be charged. The cancellation fee will be deducted from your deposit.
  • Starting on June 2, 2012, ALL DEPOSITS ARE NONREFUNDABLE.

COMIC-CON SHUTTLE SERVICE:
Helping fans enjoy every hour of Comic-Con 2012 and the nighttime fun, too!

Shuttles for Comic-Con 2012 will run continuously to the hotels indicated during these hours (frequency varies*).

  • WEDNESDAY: 3:00 PM–10:00 PM (PREVIEW NIGHT)
  • THURSDAY: 5:00 AM–SUNDAY: 7:00 PM: SHUTTLE RUNS CONTINUOUSLY!
    *FREQUENCY VARIES THROUGHOUT THE DAY.
See Shuttle Stop Locations & Map Below

As you may know from the past few years, the discounted rate offered by Comic-Con on the rooms in our block means that they tend to sell out in the first hour.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Starting at 9:00 am PT on March 29, 2012, you will be able to access the reservation request form via this page www.comic-con.org/cci/cci_hotel.php or by calling 1-877-55-COMIC (1-877-552-6642) or 212-532-1660.

  • PLEASE SELECT A MINIMUM OF ONE HOTEL AND A MAXIMUM OF TWENTY, in order of preference. If you choose to request only 1 or 2 hotels, and these hotels are not available when your form is processed, you may not get a hotel room for Comic-Con. The more choices you make the better chance you have of getting a room for Comic-Con.
  • All reservation requests will be processed in date/time stamp order. Forms received within three seconds of each other are considered to have arrived at the same time and will be processed in a random order within that three-second grouping.
  • A recap e-mail listing the hotel choices you submitted to Travel Planners will be sent to you within 48 hours. Please review it to make sure it is correct and follow the directions on your e-mail if the information is incorrect.
  • You will get your reservation confirmation e-mail listing the hotel or hotels where you have reservations no later than April 1, 2012. If you are happy with your hotels, please follow the directions on your confirmation and go back online to pay the required deposit within 48 hours of receiving your confirmation or your reservation will be cancelled. If you are not happy with your hotel and do not plan to confirm your reservation, please log on and cancel your reservation so another attendee can have a chance at getting your room.
  • All reservations require an advance deposit equal to two nights’ room and tax. Deposits are required when you log back in to guarantee your reservation and must be submitted within 48 hours of receiving your confirmation or you will lose your reservation and you will not have a hotel room for Comic-Con.
  • Hotel reservation deposits are fully refundable until May 4, 2012.
  • For cancellations from May 5 to June 1, 2012, a cancellation fee equal to one night’s room rate plus tax will be charged. The cancellation fee will be deducted from your deposit.
  • Starting on June 2, 2012, ALL DEPOSITS ARE NONREFUNDABLE.
  • Each hotel’s payment policies vary; the date that your total balance is due will be dependent upon the policies of your hotel. Most hotels place a deposit on your credit card when you check in and charge the balance on check out. Please ask your hotel for their policy.
  • As Comic-Con gets closer, hotel rooms do free up. We urge everyone who plans on making a hotel reservation for the event to keep checking the hotel page at http://www.comic-con.org/cci/cci_hotel.php for updated room availability. If you don’t get your first choice on March 29, check back later to see if the hotel you prefer is available.

John Cusack, a Chicago native and one of Hollywood’s most accomplished and respected actors of his generation, will appear at this year’s Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2).  Mr. Cusack will participate in a Q&A session on Sunday, April 15th and show a trailer for The Raven, his new movie from Relativity starring Mr. Cusack as Edgar Allen Poe. The independent period thriller, which will be released on April 27th, is directed by James McTiegue and tells the fictionalized account of the last days of Poe’s life in which the poet teams up with a young Baltimore detective to hunt down a serial killer who uses Poe’s works as the basis for his murders. Mr. Cusack will also do a limited signing for 100 fans at C2E2.

“I am enormously pleased to share this news about John Cusack’s appearance at C2E2,” notes Lance Fensterman, Group Vice President for ReedPOP and Show Manager for C2E2. “I count myself as a major fan and the fact that he is now coming to C2E2 where he will meet and greet thousands of fans, many of whom share my enthusiasm and admiration for his films, is a perfect highlight. His participation at C2E2 reinforces how great our event has become and I know his appearance will be a huge attraction.”

ABOUT JOHN CUSACK
With an impressive body of work spanning the course of two decades, John Cusack has evolved into one of Hollywood’s most accomplished and respected actors of his generation, garnering both critical acclaim as well as prestigious accolades for his dramatic and comedic roles.
.
Cusack first gained the attention of audiences by starring in a number of 1980s film classics such as The Sure ThingSay Anything and Sixteen Candles. Following these roles, Cusack successfully shed his teen-heartthrob image by demonstrating his ability to expand his film repertoire by starring in a wide range of dramas, thrillers and comedies including The GriftersEight Men Out, Adaptation, Being John Malkovich, High Fidelity and Grosse Pointe Blank.
.
This fall, we will see Cusack in Lee Daniels’ highly anticipated drama, The Paperboy. Cusack will star opposite Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron and Matthew McConaughey as Hillary Van Wetter, an inmate on death row.
.
Most recently, Cusack reunited with Nicolas Cage to film psychological thriller, Frozen Ground, which is scheduled to release in December 2012. In this film, which is based on true events, Cusack takes on the role of serial killer, Robert Hansen.
.
On April 27th, Cusack will be seen in the independent thriller The Raven where he portrays the infamous author, Edgar Allen Poe. The film, directed by James McTiegue and produced by Marc D. Evans, tells fictionalized account of the last days of Poe’s life, in which the poet is in pursuit of a serial killer whose murders mirror those in the writer’s stories.
.
Cusack divides his time between Los Angeles and Chicago.
.
