Kevin Smith’s SECRET STASH Given a Green Light!

AMC announced that the network has greenlit the unscripted television series Secret Stash executive produced by Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma, Chasing Amy),  Charlie Corwin’s Original Media (LA Ink, Miami Ink, Storm Chasers and Swamp People) and Elyse Seiden (Red State). Set in Kevin Smith’s iconic comic shop Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash, the unscripted show captures the world of the neighborhood comic book store and fanboy culture. Season one is six, one-hour episodes and is currently scheduled for a 1Q 2012 launch.  The series exemplifies AMC’s goal to be the definitive home for quality storytelling.

“Draper.  Meth.  Zombies.  This show couldn’t be on a better network.  AMC is to television what Miramax was to cinema back when I first got in the game: they’re the premier destination for any story-teller looking to spin an offbeat yarn that no other outlet has the stones to touch,” said Smith.  “And as if I didn’t love them enough, now they’re putting my friends on TV!   I’m ecstatic, proud, and extremely lucky to be in bed with a network I watch religiously anyway.  And if they’d pushed just a little harder in the negotiations, I’d have done this show for no payment beyond early access to every episode of Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and The Walking Dead.”

“AMC has a strong commitment to quality storytelling and we’re excited to help further shape this legacy,” said Corwin. “Kevin and I developed this series to create a story for fanboys by fanboyism and we are determined to reveal to audiences the insular yet colorful fanboy world.”

“The comic book store is, in many ways, the corner bar for comic book fans. It is still this place where everybody knows your name, and you can go and geek out with like minded people. If I lived closer, I’d want to hang out at here. It’s got great energy, great personality, and is a perfect portal into the world of comic book culture,” said Joel Stillerman, AMC’s SVP of original programming, production and digital content.

Secret Stash (a working title) is a one-hour series that captures the world of the local comic book store. Way before comic book culture went mainstream, the comic store has not only been a place for people to buy, sell, or trade for cool stuff; but also to hang out and be part of a community that just loves comics. Secret Stash will capture both of these aspects of comic store life. It will document the daily banter of The Secret Stash and its employees and devoted customers; and it will capture the fun and emotion of buying and selling collectibles and comic memorabilia that happens in comic book stores all across the country and in mega-venues like Comic-Con.

Kevin Smith does a daily radio show from 8 to noon, Monday to Friday, at SModcast.com, the home of Tell ‘Em, Steve-Dave – the podcast that features the Secret Stash crew.

WonderCon To Be Held in Anaheim, CA, March 16-18, 2012!

C2E2 and Wizard World to Accommodate Change

WonderCon, part of Comic-Con International‘s (CCI) family of conventions, today announced that the 2012 show will be held March 16-18, and Anaheim, California, will play host to the long-running comics and popular arts convention. San Francisco’s Moscone Center, WonderCon’s traditional venue, will undergo renovations in early 2012, leaving the 25-year-old show in the unenviable position of either being canceled or finding a new venue.

In a move to help alleviate an overcrowded calendar, ReedPop’s C2E2, which has been waiting to announce dates for its own show in March 2012, will now seek alternative dates while Wizard World has announced that it will postpone its April 2012 Anaheim show.

“It certainly was not our wish to move,” commented David Glanzer, director of marketing and public relations for the nonprofit event. “However, when faced with the prospect of canceling the show for a year or moving locations, after careful consideration we decided to keep WonderCon on the 2012 calendar at a venue that could accommodate our needs.”

“We fully understand the challenges of trying to secure dates at any venue, let alone one undergoing renovation,” said Lance Fensterman, Group Vice President of ReedPop. “In an effort to minimize the impact on exhibitors and attendees we are currently looking to shift C2E2 from our traditional March dates.”

Gareb Shamus, CEO of Wizard World offered a unique solution to offset any potential conflict for fans and exhibitors: “All of us who produce conventions know securing dates can often be a frustrating experience especially when you find yourself having to move to a new city.” Shamus continued, “Because of their long history, Wizard World has decided to accommodate WonderCon and postpone our April 2012 Anaheim show.”

“We appreciate the efforts of Lance and Gareb for going above and beyond in making the WonderCon transition more manageable,” said Glanzer.

ABC Releases Five Posters for Once Upon A Time at Comic-Con!

ABC has released five posters for their new fairytale drama series, Once Upon A Time, at Comic-Con. I missed seeing these there. Did you? Well, here they are if you did miss them.

Once Upon A Time is from Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, who were the executive producers of Lost. This story is about Emma Swan who has taken care of herself her entire life since she was an abandoned baby. Her son (Henry) that she left for adoption finds her and tells her that she is Snow White’s and Prince Charming’s missing daughter. Emma takes Henry back home to Storybrooke and finds it is a place where magic had been forgotten but still there.

The show sounds interesting and gives an impression that there is a lot of stories to tell. I’ll probably take a look and see how it is. How about you?
