AMC’s The Walking Dead Becomes First Television Series Featured at Both Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights Experiences

Guests Experience The Post-Apocalyptic Zombie Horror of AMC’s The Walking Dead At Nation’s Best Halloween Events

Caught in the middle of a high-intensity struggle for survival, you fight off hordes of flesh-hungry, growling “walkers,” or zombies. No place is safe as you make your way through a post-apocalyptic wasteland with horror at every turn. Will you survive?

This fall, Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood are joining forces with AMC’s The Walking Dead for their Halloween Horror Nights events. Visitors to both theme parks will be able to experience the horror of AMC’s blockbuster original series, The Walking Dead, in elaborately themed, haunted mazes. It marks the first-time Universal Studios has featured a television series at Halloween Horror Nights on both coasts.

The Golden Globe-nominated, Emmy Award-winning, series The Walking Dead is based on the comic book written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics. The series tells the story of the months and years that follow after a zombie apocalypse. It follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, who travel in search of a safe and secure home. The Walking Dead is the number-one drama series in basic cable history for adults 18-49 and adults 25-54.

Universal Studios’ Halloween creative teams are working with AMC and The Walking Dead, to create an authentic experience that is true to the Emmy Award-winning hit series. The haunted mazes on both coasts feature eerily authentic, elaborately designed, movie-quality sets that include some of the most iconic locations and scenes from the show. Mobs of undead walkers bring to “life” the vicious, hungry, zombies from the show.

“We want people to experience the same terror of the walker-filled reality our characters faced in seasons one and two – and will continue to face in our third season,” said Greg Nicotero, Co-Executive Producer and Special Effects Make-up Artist for the series. “Our collaboration with Universal Studios’ creative teams is exciting as we work to truly capture the essence of the show.”

“The collaboration with Universal Studios’ creative teams is a fantastic cross-promotional opportunity and a great way to capture the spirit of the series, which makes its season three debut on AMC this October,” said Linda Schupack, AMC’s Executive Vice President of Marketing.

The Walking Dead puts real people in incredibly horrific situations where they experience true, raw fear, and guests at Halloween Horror Nights experience the same thing,” said Jim Timon, Senior Vice President of Entertainment at Universal Orlando Resort. “We can’t wait to merge the two powerful concepts together.”

“With The Walking Dead, we want to make fans of the series feel like they are literally walking in the footsteps of the show’s characters, experiencing all of the horrific events from the series just as they experienced them,” said John Murdy, Creative Director at Universal Studios Hollywood. “The goal is to make guests of Halloween Horror Nights feel like they are trapped in the world of The Walking Dead, using all of the attention to detail and movie-quality production values that Halloween Horror Nights has become famous for. You’re no longer sitting on a couch, watching a show… you’re living it!”

Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights(R) events have a more than 20-year history of creating incredibly entertaining, horrifying Halloween experiences that are consistently rated the nation’s best. The events on each coast feature highly-themed, disturbingly real, haunted mazes based on everything from film to nightmares — and streets filled with hundreds of specially trained “scareactors.”

The Lookouts Preview at Comic-Con

Penny Arcade and Cryptozoic Entertainment™ are proud to announce the launch of an all-new comic book series, The Lookouts, based on the fan-favorite Penny Arcade web comic. Previewing with issues #1 July 11 – 15 at San Diego Comic-Con and in stores nationwide on August 29th, The Lookouts story was developed by Penny Arcade’s Jerry Holkins, Cryptozoic’s President and Chief Creative Officer, Cory Jones, and Ben McCool. The Lookouts is written by McCool with art by Robb Mommaerts.

This ongoing series tells the story of a group of young boys who join the Lookouts, where they must learn the secrets of the magical Eyrewood Forest. Badges are rewarded to the Lookouts upon completing different tasks. Each six-issue arc will focus on a new badge and an exciting journey for the young trainees, starting with the “Riddle” badge in the first issue. Additionally, each issue will contain a two-page spread from The Lookout’s Handbook, featuring an inside peek at this heroic group and information on additional badges.

The Lookouts #1 will be previewed at San Diego Comic-Con with two exclusive covers, one by Mike Krahulik and one by Doug TenNapel. The Lookouts #1 will launch in comic stores nationwide on August 29, 2012 with one cover by Rob Mommaerts. The comic will also be available digitally starting July 6th on comiXology mobile apps for Apple iOS, Android, and more.

Join SFX and THE WALKING DEAD at Comic-Con 2012!

Will you be in San Diego this July for the annual extravaganza that is Comic-Con? If so, Future has a treat for zombie fans

We’re heading across to San Diego to join the ultimate geek party (11-15 July). SFX and Comic Heroes will be among the Future magazines using the opportunity to celebrate The Walking Dead. Visit the Future booth to enjoy all this undead mayhem:

THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE!!!

We’re celebrating The Walking Dead 100th issue with a party in The Zombie Survival Machine.

All day Wednesday to Sunday; official unveiling on Wednesday at 5pm, with Robert Kirkman and Gary Castillo.

What does a car need to survive a zombie apocalypse?

A front-end custom zombie cow-catcher with spikes, slatted armoured window coverings, a roof hatch to allow passengers to shoot at walkers, an electric rear trunk to house weapons, all‐terrain tires, weapons storage compartments. Least but not least, it must also have a CB radio/PA system.

Design Craft have custom fabricated a Hyundai Elantra Coupe into the ultimate Zombie Survival Machine. Anyone will have a chance to get on board, interact and take photos with the car, and prepare themselves for the apocalypse.

Future is also giving away a brand new 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT car, custom wrapped with The Walking Dead graphics at the Hyundai Sweepstakes Kiosk. US entrants only, folks. The winner will be announced on the last day of the show, and we’ll give away limited edition Walking Dead buttons to some lucky entrants. More info on www.hyundaiundead.com and comics site www.skybound.com.

Show us what you got at the Zombie Cosplay!
Friday 2pm-3pm

Calling all flesh-eating, gore-loving, gear-wearing zombie eccentrics out there! For your chance to win amazing signed Walking Dead goodies and enhance your status in the zombie circles, register at the Future booth from Wednesday to Friday. We will look for zombiesque creativity, production and crowd response. Your chums Adrian Hill and Dave Bradley will be on the judging panel so come and say hello!

Make-up Station
Thursday to Saturday, 9am-7pm

This is your chance to finally find out how hot you would look as a zombie, in case you didn’t survive the deadly attacks. Liza Macawili, a professional make-up artist, will transform anyone into a living walking dead in just 15 minutes.

Walkers Target Practice
All day, Wednesday to Sunday

In the event of a zombie apocalypse, you will need to know how to shoot ‘em guns! Test your skills by shooting NERF guns at a zombie cut out, and take part in contests to win limited edition zombie swag and other special prizes. Booth photographers will be monitoring the apocalypse with the Postgram app. Participants will receive an email and a postcard with their Postagram after the show.
