Comedy Central Unveils Multiplatform Marketing Campaign for the Launch of Its New Animated Series BRICKLEBERRY

Campaign to Feature Exclusive Content on Facebook, Tumblr, and Decksi, Plus an Extensive Ad Campaign and Unique Event Marketing Initiative

Executive Produced by Daniel Tosh and Creators Waco O’Guin and Roger Black With Voice Talent Including Tosh, Kaitlin Olson, Tom Kenny, David Herman, Jerry Minor and Black

“Brickleberry” Premieres on COMEDY CENTRAL on Tuesday, September 25 at 10:30 P.M

COMEDY CENTRAL has turned over the controls to its Facebook fans. The brand has rolled out its multiplatform marketing campaign for its new animated series Brickleberry, which features the release of segments of the premiere episode based on the number of Facebook “Likes” it receives on the show’s page. This innovative approach along with the release of additional exclusive content on Tumblr, Decksi Cards and custom Brickleberry E-Cards will engage COMEDY CENTRAL fans and encourage them to share content with their friends. Executive produced by Daniel Tosh and series Creators Waco O’Guin and Roger Black, Brickleberry will premiere on COMEDY CENTRAL on Tuesday, September 25 at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT.

“This innovative launch campaign taps into the savvy social media fan-base that propelled ‘Tosh.0’ into a multiplatform hit,” said Walter Levitt, Executive Vice President, Marketing at COMEDY CENTRAL. “Using platforms like Facebook, Tumblr and Decksi, COMEDY CENTRAL is giving our fans the tools to become brand ambassadors for this new series.”

The multiplatform marketing initiatives for “Brickleberry” include:

  • Facebook: “Like To Unlock”
The campaign features an exclusive look at the “Brickleberry” pilot, which is being incrementally unlocked on Facebook: with every “Like” milestone set and reached, COMEDY CENTRAL will release a few more minutes of the pilot episode. Fans are encouraged to share the “Brickleberry” page on their Facebook Timelines and invite friends to “Like To Unlock” to view more of the pilot.
  • “A Countdown To Brickleberry
Leading up to the September 25 on-air premiere, COMEDY CENTRAL is posting daily behind-the-scenes stills, sketches, character designs, memes and GIFs to its Tumblr and Brickleberry Facebook pages. Fans can reblog the posts easily onto their own Tumblr and Facebook pages.
  • Decksi Cards
Partnering for the first time with a major media brand, this online trading card service will encourage users to “collect” and consume digital “Brickleberry” content. COMEDY CENTRAL’s deck currently features 17 cards, including two previews clips and four character mash-up videos. The deck will expand to 50 cards by the end of the season and active users will have the chance to unlock extra exclusive content.
  • Animated E-Cards
In keeping with the show’s “Nature is Filthy” theme, fans can create animated E-Cards to share with Facebook friends by selecting their preferred animal, sex position and dirty message. Once the E-Card is completed, it will appear on the selected friend’s Facebook Timeline along with a link to create and send one of their own. Also as an added bonus, the E-Cards include voiceover audio recorded by Daniel Tosh.

Additionally, in anticipation of the series premiere, COMEDY CENTRAL is extensively promoting Brickleberry through advertising on television, online, radio, outdoor and in subways. Also, as a part of the campaign, COMEDY CENTRAL will launch a one-day marketing stunt during the week of the premiere, sure to attract the attention of fans nationwide.

When commuters in select cities head to work on the morning of September 24, they will be greeted by more than 1,500 life-size cut-outs of “Malloy” the bear at major landmarks and intersections across the country. Malloy will be seen uttering something inappropriate and fans will be invited to visit NatureIsFilthy.com for more information.

From Executive Producer Daniel Tosh (“Tosh.0”) and series Creators, Writers and Executive Producers Waco O’Guin and Roger Black (MTV2’s “Stankervision”), Brickleberry, co-produced by Fox 21 and COMEDY CENTRAL, is a new animated series revolving around a group of dysfunctional park rangers at a second tier national park. Ten episodes kick off on COMEDY CENTRAL on Tuesday, September 25 at 10:30 p.m., following the fall premiere of “Tosh.0.”

Brickleberry voice talent includes Kaitlin Olson (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) as “Ethel,” the smoking hot top ranger who is transferred to Brickleberry; Tom Kenny (“SpongeBob SquarePants”) as “Woody,” the head ranger who has good intentions, but not always the best ideas; Dave Herman (“Futurama”) as “Steve,” the overconfident Ranger of the Month; Jerry Minor (“Eastbound & Down”) as “Denzel,” the African American ranger who isn’t comfortable in the woods; Roger Black as “Connie,” the unusually strong and masculine female ranger, and Tosh as “Malloy,” the cuddly, yet vulgar and spoiled resident bear. Jim Sharp and Ian Friedman are the Executives in Charge of Production for COMEDY CENTRAL.

From the minds of the hilarious and irreverent Internet sketch group Mail Order Comedy, Workaholics, currently in its third season, is a single-camera comedy featuring three friends who work together from 9 to 5, live together from 5 to 9 and party together 24/7. Dress codes, deadlines and waking up before noon are not things these guys are used to. They do their jobs and sometimes they even do them well, but they show up late, leave drunk and always live for the day…even if they don’t know what day it is. Whether it’s Blake (Blake Anderson) dressed in a bear coat, Adam (Adam Devine) singing about Catherine Zeta Jones while high on mushrooms or The Ders (Anders Holm) celebrating his birthday with a drinking triathlon, the boys always seem to run into trouble wherever they go.

Brickleberry, co-produced by Fox 21 and COMEDY CENTRAL, is based on a group of dysfunctional forest rangers at a national park that is facing closure until a new ranger comes in to whip everyone into shape and save the park. The series is created, written and executive produced by Waco O’Guin and Roger Black (MTV2′s Stankervision) and executive produced by Daniel Tosh (Tosh.0), who also voices a character. Brickleberry premieres Tuesday, September 25 at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT following new episodes of Tosh.0.

Futurama focuses on the life of Philip Fry (Billy West), a 25-year-old pizza delivery boy who accidentally freezes himself on December 31, 1999 and wakes up 1,000 years later with a fresh start at life at Planet Express, an intergalactic delivery company. There he meets love interest Leela (Katey Sagal), a sexy cyclops with anger management issues, and best friend Bender (John DiMaggio), a beer-powered kleptomaniac robot. In 2011, the series earned two Emmys® for Outstanding Animated Program and Outstanding Voice-Over Performance for Maurice LaMarche. Futurama is currently in its seventh season and airs Wednesdays at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Comedy Central® and the New York Television Festival Partner to Launch the “Comedy Central Short Pilot Competition”

Comedy Central and the New York Television Festival (NYTVF) announced an innovative program seeking original comedic short pilots and accompanying shooting scripts from independent artists and production companies. The top submissions will be reviewed by the network and the winning producer will receive a $7,500 development deal with Comedy Central.

“While it may seem like a generous gesture of support to an emerging generation of creators, we are really hoping to find something compelling for very cheap,” said Kent Alterman, Head of Original Programming and Production, Comedy Central.

“The NYTVF is thrilled to partner with Comedy Central on this new development initiative and open industry doors for our community of independent artists,” said NYTVF founder Terence Gray. “As television and new media continue to take chances and push the boundaries of comedy, this is an exciting time for great comedic voices to get their shot. The NYTVF has a solid tradition of finding great talent and we look forward to sharing the best, weirdest, wildest, most hilarious and off-the-wall selections with Comedy Central.”

The initiative is open to U.S. residents age 18 and over who do not have any contractual commitments preventing them from entering into an exclusive development deal with Comedy Central. Comedic concepts not currently under development at a network, studio or major production company and meeting all other criteria in the Official Rules are eligible for the competition.

Completed entries will include a four (4) – eleven (11) minute first act of an original comedy pilot and the accompanying ten (10) to twenty-five (25) page shooting script of the episode. Official contest rules and dates can be accessed through the contest Web site located at http://www.nytvf.com/2012_comedycentral.htm. The NYTVF will be accepting entries from October 2011 through January 2012.

A screening committee of NYTVF officials will narrow the pool of entrants down to 25 finalists which will be presented to Comedy Central development executives. One winner will be selected by Comedy Central and he/she will receive a development deal from the network. Additionally, Comedy Central may elect to enter into development agreements with additional finalists and all 25 selected creators will be invited to participate in the 2012 New York Television Festival as Official Artists.

The Comedy Central Short Pilot Competition marks the first announced development partnership for the NYTVF’s 2012 season. The 2011 development season, which wraps during this week’s New York Television Festival, included the NYTVF’s annual independent pilot competition, which offered sponsored development awards from IFC, FX, MTV and Syfy as well as NYTVF Pitch with partners Sundance Channel, MSN and SevenOne International. Additionally, both FOX and A&E partnered with the NYTVF for individual development initiatives in 2011 – the 4th Annual FOX-NYTVF Comedy Script Contest and the inaugural A&E Unscripted Development Pipeline, respectively.

About the NYTVF
Established in 2005, the NYTVF is a pioneer of the independent television movement, constructing new and innovative paths of development and talent identification, while simultaneously complementing the traditional television development model.  Its annual New York Television Festival – held each fall in New York City – is recognized as the industry’s first independent television festival which provides a platform to elevate the work of artists creating for the small screen.  Through the Festival and other year-round activities, the NYTVF’s mission is to connect its community of over 8,500 independent creative artists with leading networks, studios and brands by cultivating relationships that lead to new opportunities.  For more information on the NYTVF, the annual Festival and these competitions, visit www.nytvf.com.

“Futurama,” the Emmy(R) Award-winning series, and “Ugly Americans” air as part of a weekly, one-hour “Thurs-Dimension” animation block on Thursdays from 10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT on COMEDY CENTRAL with “Futurama” from 10:00-10:30 p.m. and “Ugly Americans” from 10:30-11:00 p.m.

Take New York City, add every horrifying beast, science-fiction freak and fantasy faerie, shake thoroughly, and you’ve got “Ugly Americans,” an animated series that follows Mark Lilly, a social worker at the Department of Integration, as he helps new citizens both human and “other” adapt to hectic life in the Big Apple. There are easier tasks than soothing a vengeful mummy, being a slave in Satan’s dark army and trying to circumcise wizards, but Mark proves he’s up to the challenge, even if his co-workers are as incompetent as ever.

Mark’s case load during the second season is heavy as always and his Department of Integration colleagues are less than helpful, including Twayne (Michael-Leon Wooley), a terrorizing demonic bureaucrat; Mark’s succubus co-worker and casual fling Callie Maggotbone (Natasha Leggero), who has some strange ideas about where to take their relationship; Leonard Powers (Randy Pearlstein), an aging drunken wizard and Mark’s office mate; and Lt. Grimes (Larry Murphy), a law-enforcement officer who despises non-humans. At least Mark still has his zombie roommate Randall Skeffington (Kurt Metzger), who doesn’t care what Mark does, as long as he covers his half of the rent.

In August, MTV Networks’ “345 Games” division will release “Ugly Americans: Apocalypseggedon” (available for Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network), a four player co-op side-scroller shooter game that features an exclusive script written by the show’s writers including a new character unique to the game and custom voiceovers from the show’s actors. Uniting the spirit and humor of the series with addictive game play, players of “Ugly Americans: Apocalypseggedon” will hit the streets to clean up the chaos and prevent the impending apocalypse by resolving case files and fighting otherworldly citizens.
“Futurama” focuses on the life of Philip Fry (Billy West), a 25-year-old pizza delivery boy who accidentally freezes himself on December 31, 1999 and wakes up 1,000 years later with a fresh start at life at Planet Express, an intergalactic delivery company. There he meets love interest Leela (Katey Sagal), a sexy cyclops with anger management issues, and best friend Bender (John DiMaggio), a beer-powered kleptomaniac robot. The series aired for five seasons on Fox (1999 to 2003) earning Emmy(R) nominations each season while winning three times, including “Outstanding Animated Program” in 2002.
