Comic-Con Badge Pre-Registration will take place some time between November 1st and December 31st, 2013 (it’s never known when it may occur). If you’re getting someone a gift of a SDCC badge, they will need a Member ID. Everyone who attends will need a Member ID. Good luck and don’t hold your breath until then. Just be prepared. Comic-Con is working hard to improve the online registration system and will launch Comic-Con 2014 badge preregistration sometime between November 1 and December 31, 2013. Only those that have purchased a Comic-Con 2013 4-Day attendee or 1-Day attendee badge and have a valid Comic-Con Member ID will be eligible to participate in 2014 badge preregistration. 

If you attended Comic-Con 2013 as a child, but will be age 13 or older as of November 1, 2013, you must register for a Comic-Con Member ID to be eligible to participate in 2014 preregistration. Once you have registered for a Member ID, log in to your Member ID account after August 8, 2013 and follow the instructions to qualify for preregistration. You will need your Comic-Con 2013 badge to register as an eligible attendee.

Professionals, guests of professionals, exhibitors, exhibitor purchased attendee badges, volunteers, staff, and press will not be allowed to participate in badge preregistration. Open online registration for all categories listed above will occur at a later date.

Eligible attendees will be notified via email with badge preregistration instructions and information sometime in November 2013. The notification will be sent to the email associated with your Member ID account.

Please be sure to “opt-in” to e-mail correspondence to receive the badge preregistration announcement. To check your Member ID notification “opt-outs,” log in to your account here and select the option “Change my preferences/unsubscribe.”

We strongly suggest that you log in to your Member ID account and check your current “Membership Type.” If you are a senior or member of the military, please be sure to update your Membership Type before preregistration to be eligible for the reduced badge price.

UPDATED POLICY
Children age 12 and under are free with a paying adult. Children do not need to register for a Member ID to receive a badge. You may register a child (12 and under) onsite for free at the Attendee Badge Pick-Up Desk if a paying adult accompanies the child. You will be required to provide emergency contact information for any child registrant age 12 and under.

To accommodate the transition from child to junior (age 13-17), we have set a static date to determine who is considered a child for Comic-Con 2013. If you were age 12 or under on August 1, 2012, you do not need to buy a badge for Comic-Con 2013. You may attend as a child. If you were age 13 or older on August 1, 2012, you must create a Member ID and purchase a badge for Comic-Con 2013 during EPIC Open Online Registration.

The following information is for people who are interested in purchasing a Comic-Con 2013 badge. It is a lot of information to digest, but those who read it may have a significant advantage over those who choose not to. Above all, we sincerely wish we could accommodate everyone who would like to attend our event, but unfortunately we are limited by capacity. We have tried our best to make the registration system as smooth and painless as possible. We hope the information below will give you a leg up on the competition!

Preparation for Open Online Registration: 

  • Anyone who wishes to purchase a Comic-Con 2013 badge must have a valid Comic-Con Member ID. To sign up for a Member ID, please click here. The Member ID system will CLOSE to new registrations on February 12, 2013 and will not reopen until badge sales are over.
  • Once you have a valid Member ID account, log in and check your opt-outs by selecting the “Show My Preferences/Unsubscribe” option. DO NOT OPT-OUT of email correspondence from Comic-Con if you wish to receive the Open Online Registration link.
  • You will need your last name and Member ID to log in to the EPIC Registration system. Sign in to your Member ID account and select the “Show My Info” option to verify your registration login information. If you will be purchasing a badge for a friend or family member, you will need their Member ID and last name as well.
  • If you are a junior, senior, or member of the military, please log in to your Member ID account and select the “Change My Preferences/Unsubscribe” option. Double check your “Membership Type” and change it if needed. You will not be able to change this option on the day of badge sales. If your “Membership Type” is listed as adult, you will not be shown the option to purchase a junior, senior, or military badge.
  • If you have already purchased a badge during pre-registartion in August 2012, but are attempting to upgrade your badge purchase, please read the badge purchase Terms & Conditions. Your preregistration purchase will be automatically canceled and refunded, without notification, if you purchase an overlapping badge date during Open Online Registration.
  • If you will be using someone else’s credit card to make a purchase, please be sure you have their email and physical address before you begin.

Day of Sale Instructions: 

  • The EPIC Registration waiting room will open at 9:00 AM Pacific Time (PT) on February 16, 2013. Prior to that, if you click the link (or copy-and-paste into your browser)  you will be taken to a static landing page.  At 9:00 AM (PT), click the green button on the landing page and you should be redirected to the EPIC Registration waiting room.* IT IS OK TO REFRESH YOUR BROWSER WHILE ON THE LANDING PAGE. However, do not refresh your browser once you have reached the EPIC waiting room.
  • Once inside the EPIC Registration waiting room, a number will indicate your position in line. DO NOT REFRESH YOUR BROWSER OR RUN MULTIPLE INSTANCES OF THE WAITING ROOM IN YOUR BROWSER.  Refreshing your browser or running multiple instances of the waiting room in a single browser will move you to the back of the line.
  • Once you have reached the front of the line, you will enter your Last Name and Member ID. Please be sure to review this information by logging in to your Member ID account prior to February 16, 2013.
  • After you begin your badge purchase session, you will review your contact information and select the badge you wish to purchase. If your contact information is incorrect, please continue on and purchase your badge anyway. You will have an opportunity to change your information at a later date and you do not want to lose valuable seconds while in the EPIC registration system.
  • If the badge you wish to purchase is unavailable, please make an alternate selection. Do not refresh your session. Refreshing your session or hitting the “back” button will not refresh badge inventory. If your preferred badge is not listed, it is not available.
  • If you wish to register another person after you have completed your payment, select the “Purchase Another Badge” button at the end of your registration session. If you do not select this option, you will be removed from your EPIC registration session and will not have the opportunity to purchase another badge.
  • You may register up to four people (including yourself) during your EPIC registration session, while badge inventory is available. You must register each person individually and each must have his or her own valid and unique Member ID. You may not register more than one person with the same Member ID. Be sure to have the Member ID and last name for any individual you wish to register.
  • It is possible that badge inventory may run out while you are in session. If you select a badge option and receive an error message upon payment, please follow the instructions to return to the badge registration page and select another badge option. Your original option is no longer available.
  • It is possible that you may purchase a badge for yourself, but find that the same badge type is unavailable when you try to purchase for a friend or family member. Comic-Con does not guarantee that all badge types will be available at the time of purchase. Comic-Con does not guarantee that you will be able to purchase badges for up to four people before inventory is depleted.

Post-Sale Instructions: 

  • After you have completed your EPIC registration session, please allow 48 hours for EPIC to charge your credit card. You will be sent a confirmation of your credit card transaction immediately.
  • EPIC barcode confirmations will be sent out 48 – 72 hours after registration closes. Please allow at least 72 hours for your barcode confirmation to arrive before contacting Comic-Con International.
  • Comic-Con customer service will be available from 8:30 AM PT until badges are sold out on February 16, 2013. We will post the customer service hotline number on Facebook only. To follow us on Facebook, please click here.

Comic-Con 2012 Badge Registration Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I sign-up to receive an alert when badges go on sale?

Your Comic-Con Member ID will add you to our verified special member “E-List.” Comic-Con will release the badge sales date and time via email to everyone who has registered for a Member ID. Please check your email frequently for this announcement. Due to the large number of Member ID accounts, it can take a few hours for our email notifications to go out in batches. If your friend or family member receives an email notification before you, please hang tight and be patient. Yours will arrive shortly.

I still don’t understand – What is the difference between Member IDs, badges, and tickets?

A Comic-Con badge is required for entry to any Comic-Con event. This is the physical badge you will wear at Comic-Con.

Additionally, a Member ID account is required to purchase, apply, or register for a badge for Comic-Con. The Member ID will act as your “login” to the EPIC online registration system when badge sales begin. Without a Member ID you will not be able to log on to the EPIC online registration system and purchase a badge, nor complete a press, professional, trade professional, or volunteer application.

Comic-Con does not sell “tickets” to our event. After you register for a Member ID and purchase your badge through EPIC online registration, you will receive a barcode confirmation e-mail that you will bring onsite to exchange for a badge.

Are there a limited number of Member IDs available?

Anyone may register for a Member ID, they will not run out. You will only need to register for a Member ID once. Please note that duplicate e-mail addresses are not allowed, and only one Member ID per person. Member ID registration will close February 28th, 2012.

I do not check my e-mail frequently. If I sign up for SMS on Facebook or follow you on Twitter will I receive first notification of when badge sales begin?

No. Comic-Con will release the badge sales date and time via email to everyone who has registered for a Member ID. Announcements on Facebook, Twitter, RSS, and our official Comic-Con website will come at a later time.

I signed up for a Member ID. How many badges can I buy?

During online badge sales, you may purchase a 4-day badge with Preview Night, or a 4-day badge without Preview Night, or any combination of single-day badges without duplication (e.g., you cannot purchase two Sunday badges under the same Member ID).

Can I buy badges for my friends using my Member ID?

If you plan to purchase a badge for anyone other than yourself, you must have his or her Member ID and last name when online registration opens. If badge inventory is available, you may register up to 6 people total during your online registration session, but you must have the unique Member ID and last name for each individual.

My wife and I share the same e-mail, why do we each need a unique e-mail address?

By requiring a unique e-mail address for each Member ID, our hope is to increase the speed of the online registration process and prevent duplicate registrations that allow scalpers to purchase multiple tickets and sell them at inflated prices. Our hope is that the Comic-Con Member ID system will allow more fans to purchase tickets for this highly popular event.

Why are you making this so difficult? Will I need to sign up for a Member ID again next year?

We truly thank you for your patience during this process. Our goal with the Member ID system is to increase the efficiency and speed of the EPIC online badge registration system, as well as decrease the number of scalpers purchasing large blocks of tickets. You will only need to sign up for a Comic-Con Member ID once, and it is yours for life! If you wish to purchase a badge for Comic-Con 2013 and beyond, you will use your same Member ID.

How can I get a badge for my child (age 12 and under) if they cannot register for a Member ID?

Children do not need to register for a Member ID to receive a badge. Please refer to your Comic-Con barcode confirmation or click here for details on how to register your child onsite.

I already bought a badge for 2012 at Comic-Con 2011. Can I buy more badges during open online registration?

If you have already purchased a Comic-Con 2012 badge, you will be allowed to participate in online badge sales using your new Member ID, however purchases of multiple badges with overlapping dates using the same Member ID is strictly prohibited.

If you use your Member ID to purchase a badge for a day for which you previously purchased a badge, the original badge you purchased will automatically be canceled and the amount paid will be refunded without contacting you.

For example, if you purchased a 4-day badge during pre-registration and you use your Member ID to purchase a second 4-day badge with Preview Night, the 4-day badge you purchased during pre-registration will be canceled and refunded. Likewise, if you purchased a 4-day badge during pre-registration and then purchase a single-day badge, the 4-day badge will be canceled.

This policy does not apply to purchasing different single-day badges. For example, if you purchased a Friday badge during pre-registration and you later use your Member ID to purchase a Saturday badge, your original Friday badge purchase will not be canceled. Only purchases of badges with overlapping dates will be subject to automatic cancellation and refund.

What can I expect from Comic-Con 2012 online badge sales?
When Comic-Con badge sales begin, thousands of people will be trying to access our registration system at the same time. Because of limited space at the San Diego Convention Center, we are required to limit attendance and do not have enough badges for everyone who would like to attend the show. Unfortunately, the high demand and limited availability can make buying a badge challenging and time-consuming. Although we are working hard on our registration system to make buying your badge a better experience, we want you to know what to expect during badge sales and have provided you with some tips below.

Comic-Con will release the badge sales date and time via e-mail to everyone who has registered for a Member ID. Please check your e-mail frequently. There will be no announcement on Facebook, Twitter, or the official Comic-Con website until badge sales actually begin. Please be aware that our e-mail notifications are released in batches, and you may not receive yours until a few hours after we begin sending them out. We are aware of this delay and have scheduled badge sales accordingly.

When badge sales begin, you will access the registration website according to the directions sent in your e-mail notification. Once you are redirected to the EPIC registration website, you will enter a waiting room where you will be able to see your place in line at the top of the screen. Do not refresh your screen or open a new browser! Refreshing your screen or opening multiple browsers while in the waiting room will send you to the back of the line.

When you reach the front of the line, you will automatically be sent to an online registration session to purchase your badge(s). You will need to enter your Member ID and last name for validation. You may purchase one 4-day badge or a
combination of single-day badges per each unique Member ID. After you complete your first purchase, you will be prompted to either purchase a badge for another person or exit the process. You may register up to 6 people total during your online registration session, but you must have the unique Member ID and last name for each individual.

We cannot guarantee you will be able to purchase a badge even if you have signed up for a Comic-Con Member ID.

  1. There may be long wait times. Once you are in the waiting room, you will stay in line until it is your turn to begin your online registration session. Please be prepared to wait up to 3–4 hours in line before entering the online registration session to purchase your badges. You will be notified where you are in line when you enter the waiting room.
  2. You will be helped in the order in which you have lined up. EPIC registration will provide you with a number that represents your place in line. Please be aware that when the site first opens, many people will enter the waiting room at the same time. Although we try to line you up in the order in which you enter, many people will hit the website simultaneously, and it is possible that you and a friend who enter the waiting room at the exact same moment could be several thousand places away from each other in line. If your place in line is over 40,000, it is possible that you will not get a badge. If your place in line is under 40,000, it is possible that you still may not get a badge because buyers are allowed to register up to 6 people per registration session.
  3. The waiting room will close when it reaches a capacity of 60,000. To limit the pressure on the EPIC registration system, the EPIC waiting room will close once 60,000 people are in line. You will be returned to the Comic-Con website after you click the registration link if the waiting room is full. You may click the link again to try to reenter the waiting room as people complete their purchases.
  4. You will not be able to purchase a badge without a valid Member ID. When your registration session begins, you will need to have your Member ID and last name readily available. If you signed up for a Comic-Con Member ID, but did not confirm your e-mail per instructions, you will not be able to purchase a badge. To verify that your Member ID registration is complete, please visit https://secure2.comic-con.org/memberid/ and select the “Member ID Login” button. If you are unable to log in to your Member ID account, you do not have a valid Member ID on file and should contact us immediately at memberid_admin@comic-con.org.
  5. You will not be able to change and/or correct your contact information during online registration. The EPIC registration system will be pre-populated with the name and e-mail on file in the Comic-Con Member ID database. You will not be able to change this information during online badge sales. Please check your Member ID account before badge sales begin to confirm that all of your contact information is correct. The first and last name on your Member ID account must match the name on your photo identification. We strongly suggest that you do not use an AOL or Yahoo email address on your Member ID account as there may be a delay in delivery of important announcements. We recommend that you change the e-mail on your Member ID account before badge sales begin.
  6. You will need the Member IDs and last names of the people you wish to register. If you are purchasing badges for others, please be sure to have their personal Member IDs and last names readily available. We strongly suggest that you take time to confirm the spelling of each person’s Member ID and last name before you begin the registration process. Member IDs or last names that do not match what is on file will result in an error message when you try to purchase badges. You do not need to purchase a badge for children 12 and under.
  7. You will not need to get in line again to purchase additional badges. Once you have reached the front of the line, you will be redirected to your online registration session. You will need to enter your Member ID and last name to begin the session. During your session you may purchase a 4-day badge with Preview Night, or a 4-day badge without Preview Night, or any combination of single-day badges without duplication (e.g., you cannot purchase two Sunday badges under the same Member ID). When you have completed the first purchase, you will be prompted to register another person or exit the process. If you choose to register another person, you must have the person’s unique Comic-Con Member ID and last name to make another purchase. You may only use your Member ID once. Once you have completed the registration session cycle 6 times, you will be automatically returned to the Comic-Con website.
  8. By the time you reach the front of the line, your desired badge type may not be available. 4-day badges with Preview Night will likely sell out quickly and may not be available by the time you start your online registration session. Additionally, badges may sell out while you are in the middle of your session, i.e., it is possible that you may purchase a 4-day badge for yourself only to find that they are sold out when you go to purchase one for a friend or family member.
  9. Your badge purchase should reflect your age at the time of purchase, not at the time Comic-Con begins. If you are purchasing a badge for a Junior attendee who is 17 now but will be 18 by July 11, 2012, please purchase a Junior badge during your online registration session. You do not need to buy an adult badge.
  10. Your credit card will not be charged for 48–72 hours after your registration session. To increase the speed of the online registration system, we will not charge your credit card during your registration session. You will receive an individual acknowledgment for each person you register. Your credit card will be charged within 48–72 hours and we will send you a receipt once your card has been successfully processed. Should your credit card be declined after your purchase, you will receive an e-mail alert that instructs you to resubmit payment information. If you do not submit a new form of payment by the deadline in the e-mail, your badges will be canceled and returned to inventory for resale at a later date. We recommend that you add registration@epicreg.com to your e-mail’s safe sender file.
  11. You will not receive your barcode confirmation until your credit card has been successfully charged. Please be patient as we process badge purchases 48–72 hours after your online registration session ends. Once your payment has been processed, a barcode confirmation will go to the email you used to sign up for a Member ID. If you purchased badges for others, the barcode will go to their e-mail directly, not yours.

If you have already purchased a Comic-Con 2012 badge, you will be allowed to participate in online badge sales using your Member ID. Please read the following notice carefully.

Purchases of multiple badges with overlapping dates using the same Member ID is strictly prohibited.

If you use your Member ID to purchase a badge for a day for which you previously purchased a badge, the original badge you purchased will automatically be canceled and the amount paid will be refunded without contacting you.

For example, if you purchased a 4-day badge during pre-registration and you use your Member ID to purchase a second 4-day badge with Preview Night, the 4-day badge you purchased during pre-registration will be canceled and refunded. Likewise, if you purchased a 4-day badge during pre-registration and then purchase a single-day badge, the 4-day badge will be canceled.

This policy does not apply to purchasing different single-day badges. For example, if you purchased a Friday badge during pre-registration and you later use your Member ID to purchase a Saturday badge, your original Friday badge purchase will not be canceled. Only purchases of badges with overlapping dates will be subject to
automatic cancellation and refund.

While Comic-Con has made every effort to make the badge purchase experience fair for everyone, it is possible that problems outside of our control could result in the system not working as planned. The possibility exists that anti-virus, anti-spyware, and anti-malware software may aggressively block browser cookies, JavaScript, or other operation of modern web applications. It is also possible that user error, specific hardware problems, local ISP issues, or simply the extremely high level of demand beyond our control may result in your computer and/or browser not behaving as described above. While Comic-Con has done extensive testing, we make no guarantees that your efforts will result in a successful badge purchase regardless of when you enter the process.

Tips for a Successful Registration Session:

  1. Make sure your Member ID account is confirmed and check your e-mail
    frequently for announcements. Have the Member ID and last name of everyone you wish to purchase a badge for readily available.
  2. If you are currently using a Yahoo or AOL e-mail address on your Member ID account, we recommend changing it to a more reliable provider.
  3. Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, and Google Chrome are the EPIC waiting room preferred web browsers. Your browser should be updated to the latest version available from your vendor and installed in the default configuration with cookies and JavaScript enabled to ensure compatibility with our waiting room.
  4. DO NOT refresh your screen or open multiple browsers once you enter the EPIC waiting room. If you do so, you will be sent to the back of the line.
  5. Be prepared to wait 3-4 hours in the waiting room and schedule your day accordingly.
  6. Have the credit card you plan on using readily available, make sure you have an adequate dollar limit for all planned purchases, and familiarize yourself with the CVV number on the specific credit card. We accept AMEX, Mastercard, and Visa only. We do not accept PayPal.
