A new season of infinite imagination and fantastic make-up magic ignites with the third season of Syfy‘s most popular unscripted series, Face Off, premiering on a new night and time, Tuesday, August 21 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The season will introduce a talented group of special effects make-up artists who will meet face to face in Los Angeles to compete in a series of elaborate challenges that will ultimately determine just who has the skillful hand to win Face Off.

Face Off is an authentic depiction of the high creative standards necessary for a special effects make-up artist to succeed in their craft. The series debuted in January 2011 as a new reality competition program to critical and ratings success. The second season finale of Face Off became the most watched unscripted telecast in Syfy’s nearly 20-year history, transforming 3.58 million total viewers, based on Live +7 data. This also established a Syfy original series record – for scripted and unscripted programs – for most Adults 18-34 viewers with 1.01 million.

Returning to the lab for the new season is actress and host McKenzie Westmore, along with judges Ve Neill (The Hunger Games, Pirates of the Caribbean) and Glenn Hetrick (Mad Men, Heroes). Patrick Tatopolous will sit on the judges’ panel for the premiere episode, before he starts production design on his latest project, 300: Battle of Artemisia.

Joining the series as the new judge is Neville Page, Lead Creature Designer on the highest grossing movie of all time Avatar, Character Designer on Ridley Scott’s recent blockbuster Prometheus, Lead Creature and Character Designer on J.J. Abram’s Star Trek, Lead Concept Designer on Tron: Legacy and Creature Designer on Super 8. Page’s upcoming films include Creature Designer on The Amazing Spider-Man and his most recent work on J.J. Abram’s highly anticipated next installment of the Star Trek film-franchise.

The season also boasts an array of prominent guest judge appearances including Academy-Award winning producer Brian Grazer (How The Grinch Stole Christmas, A Beautiful Mind), Kevin Smith (Red State), Gale Anne Hurd (Aliens, The Walking Dead), Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings), LucasFilm collaborator and actor Matthew Wood (Star Wars prequels), Paul WS Anderson (Alien vs. Predator, Resident Evil: Afterlife), boxer Laila Ali and Oscar-nominated makeup artist Barney Burman (Star Trek, Mission Impossible III).

The challenges featured will be some of the most difficult, creative and inventive yet: the contestants will create eye-popping new creatures inspired by the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss, an original alien character inspired by the classic cantina scene from Star Wars: A New Hope, as well as creations for a challenge inspired by the NBC series Grimm. The challenges will be set against the backdrop of Southern California, from the high seas off the coast of San Diego to the WhoVille set at the Universal Studios Hollywood backlot.

The Face Off contestants will be whittled down week by week as they compete to outshine their competition. The winning artist will receive $100,000 and will also be given the opportunity to become a guest lecturer at the MAKE UP FOR EVER Academies in New York and Paris.

Kevin Smith’s SECRET STASH Given a Green Light!

AMC announced that the network has greenlit the unscripted television series Secret Stash executive produced by Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma, Chasing Amy),  Charlie Corwin’s Original Media (LA Ink, Miami Ink, Storm Chasers and Swamp People) and Elyse Seiden (Red State). Set in Kevin Smith’s iconic comic shop Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash, the unscripted show captures the world of the neighborhood comic book store and fanboy culture. Season one is six, one-hour episodes and is currently scheduled for a 1Q 2012 launch.  The series exemplifies AMC’s goal to be the definitive home for quality storytelling.

THE WALKING DEAD Season 2 Kicks Off with a 90 Minute Premiere Episode!

AMC’s critically acclaimed original series, The Walking Dead, is back with its much anticipated second 13 episode season. Kicking-off a two week long Fearfest, the network, once again, presents viewers with a 90-minute premiere episode, airing at 9 PM ET on Sunday, October 16th, with six one-hour episodes in the weeks following. The final six episodes of the season commences on Sunday, February 12th at 9pm ET. The 90 minute version is also scheduled to be launched globally on all Fox International Channels, following the US premiere the week of October 17th-23rd. Season two reaches FOX audiences in 122 countries, speaking 35 languages and is seen by over 200 million households globally.

Lionsgate and Kevin Smith Team Up for Innovative Release of Smith’s Controversial Thriller Red State

LIONSGATE® LGF, a leading diversified global entertainment company, and SModcast Pictures announced today that they have partnered to create an innovative approach to distribute Kevin Smith’s controversial thriller RED STATE, announced Jim Packer, Lionsgate President of Worldwide Television and Digital Distribution, and SModcast’s Kevin Smith.

Under the terms of the arrangement, Lionsgate obtains the rights to distribute the title on all packaged media, Video-On-Demand (VOD), Subscription Video-On-Demand (SVOD), Electronic Sell-Through (EST) and Television in the United States, while SModcast has retained the theatrical distribution rights throughout the US.  Under the guidance of marketing and distribution executive David Dinerstein, Smith’s self-distribution label SModcast Pictures and Lionsgate Films have devised a multi-tier release strategy unlike any independent film to date. The film is scheduled to release on multiple platforms this September followed by packaged media before the end of the year.

Written and directed by Kevin Smith and produced by Jonathan Gordon, RED STATE stars 2011 Academy Award® winner for Best Actress Melissa Leo and Emmy® winner John Goodman, plus Kyle Gallner and Michael Parks.  The film debuted at this year’s Sundance Film Festival to much notoriety when Smith ended studio bidding by buying his own film for $20 and declaring he would be self-distributing the film theatrically. Smith has since toured the film around the country to enthusiastic audiences, grossing close to $1 million to date at the US box office from only 15 single show engagements. SModcast spent less than $500 in paid advertising to support the tour which kicked off at Radio City Music Hall on March 5th and grossed $162,000 during one show. It quietly topped the per screen average charts for three weekends, becoming the 10th best per screen average film of all time.

The Lionsgate deal was negotiated by Wendy Jaffe, Lionsgate Executive Vice President of Business & Legal Affairs, Acquisitions and Co-Productions, and Smith’s attorney John Sloss, and David Dinerstein.

RED STATE tells the story of a group of teens in Middle America who receive an online invitation for sex, but soon encounter fundamentalists with a much more sinister agenda. The movie is the latest release from Smith to be added to the Lionsgate library as the studio obtained the home entertainment distribution rights to Smith classics CHASING AMY, CLERKS and JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK through its recent acquisition of the Miramax catalog.

EPIX Brings William Shatner, Avery Brooks and Kevin Smith to Comic-Con!

Online Event ‘EPIX Live from Comic-Con’ will connect fans across the U.S.

EPIX, the premium entertainment channel, video-on-demand and online service announced today that it will preview its original EPIX Picture, The Captains, at this year’s Comic-Con(R) in San Diego on Friday, July 22. William Shatner will talk about the original documentary he produced and directed, an in depth look at the actors who have played Star Trek Captains in the films and television shows. The Captains will make its world premiere July 22 at 8:00 pm EDT on EPIX and EpixHD.com as the centerpiece of SHATNERPALOOZA, a celebration of William Shatner’s film and television work running on the EPIX linear channel, EPIX SVOD service and EpixHD.com from July 21 through July 30. SHATNERPALOOZA kicks off with a 48-hour marathon that will also include the world television premiere of William Shatner’s Gonzo Ballet, an award winning EPIX Pictures original that takes an inside look at the staging of famed choreographer Margo Sappington’s ballet set to the music and spoken word of Shatner’s 2004 album, “Has Been.” Shatner produced and stars in the documentary which includes appearances by composer Ben Folds and actor/musician Henry Rollins. Also featured will be the complete collection of the six original Star Trek films starring William Shatner in his seminal role as Captain Kirk, plus other rarely seen and sometimes controversial films including The Intruder, Big Bad Mama, Disaster on a Coastliner and Broken Angel, along with some highly entertaining TV fare like a classic 1964 episode of Outer Limits, a dazzling turn as the first host of Iron Chef and a no holds barred TV roast.

Comic-Con attendees will be invited to see The Captains on EpixHD.com as part of a two-week free trial offer.
