Comic-Con International Decides Not To Offer On-Site Pre-Registration for SDCC 2013

Comic Con International sent a email/survey to current badge holders to try to get input from attendees regarding purchasing passes for 2013. There will NOT be any Attendee Pre-Registration for Comic-Con 2013 at the convention, as was done last year. CCI is considering opening online pre-registration for current (2012) attendees after Comic-Con 2012 is over with a possibility of also restricting the number of badges you will be able to purchase. There will be more complaints about this process as well since those that were not able to purchase passes will feel left out of this ability to give their own input. Unfair? Yes. It does not seem that this was well thought out. Is there room for improvement? Yes. Will your input be considered? Perhaps.

The only good news from all of this is that everyone can enjoy the rest of the convention without waiting in a line to purchase passes. So, it would seem the other lines at Comic-Con will be just that much longer though. With a crowd that seems to get larger every year, being able to attend the convention does not rely solely on your personal availability and/or the size of your bank account. It just relies on shear luck at this point. Any comments are welcome and GOOD LUCK to everyone!

Email/Survey

Dear <Attendee>,

As a Comic-Con 2012 registered attendee you are receiving this email. We hope you will agree to take a quick survey (8 questions) that could help us
better serve you in terms of future registration. Below is a link to the survey
which will be conducted on our vendor’s website at SurveyGizmo. The survey will
be open until midnight Friday, May 25, 2012 Pacific Time (PT).

Survey

In an effort to better accommodate and understand the needs of our attendees Comic-Con has, from time to time, conducted audience feedback surveys. In the past, this has been done onsite on a one-on-one basis. The new Comic-Con Member ID system now allows us to conduct these surveys online and potentially use a wider test audience.

Receiving your input will better assist us in trying to find the best way to face the challenges of having a popular show for which there are more people who want to attend than we have badges to accommodate. By taking part in this survey you will become an active partner in helping Comic-Con meet the needs of our attendees and help to provide a better experience for all.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: This survey is being distributed only to current 2012 badge holders.

Because of the sheer number of people who wanted to register at the show for the following year, we had to move 2012 pre-registration off-site to accommodate the lines of people and allow space for additional registration equipment.

Our plan in 2011, to have the pre-registration area open only until 11:00am each day or until the allotment of badges had been sold, was an effort to allow people to enjoy the show and not have to spend the entire day in line for badges. Unfortunately, even with these changes and a larger facility we could not accommodate every attendee who wanted to purchase a badge for Comic-Con 2012, and we did not avoid having a long line of people waiting to purchase those badges.

Comic-Con has decided to not offer on-site pre-registration for the 2013 show.

Instead, we plan to offer those who attend Comic-Con 2012 a special opportunity to purchase a 2013 badge after Comic-Con.

Answering the questions below will help us find the best solution to facilitate this process. Thank you for your cooperation and your assistance and for being an active part of Comic-Con International.

Questions

  1. I like the idea of having some type of pre-registration sale limited only to people who attended in 2012.
  2. I like the idea of a Traditional Online Sale for Comic-Con 2013 badges, where only those people with a 2012 badge could participate.Traditional Online Sale – the general online sale which has been used for the bulk of the badge sales in past few years.
  3. I like the idea of a Limited Drawing for Comic-Con 2013 badges, where only those with a 2012 badge could participate.
  4. What number of total Comic-Con 2013 badges should we allocate for pre-registration to 2012 badge holders?I think those with a Comic-Con 2012 badge should be allowed to purchase badges for friends and family who ALSO attended Comic-Con in 2012.
  5. How many people should they be allowed to buy badges for (other than their own badge)
  6. I think those with a Comic-Con 2012 badge should be allowed to purchase badges for friends and family who DID NOT attend Comic-Con in 2012
  7. Did you pre-register for a Comic-Con 2012 badge at the 2011 show?
  8. Have you pre-registered on-site in any year before 2011?

2011 Comic-Con Single Day Badge Resale

Comic-Con International announced on Twitter:

Information on the Comic-Con single day badge purchasing process is now available online.

So we go to their website and find out what we already know so far…

There will be NO ONSITE REGISTRATION!

Comic-Con International will be selling returned single day badges through EPIC online registration.

An adult single day badge will be sold at the rate of $40 and Junior, Senior, and Military single day badges will be sold at the rate of $23 each. Sunday adult badges will be $23, and Junior, Senior, and Military Sunday badges will be sold at the rate of $13 each. These prices include a $3 reprocessing fee.

You may purchase up to TWO single day badges only.

Your Registration Process

To participate in the badge resale, click the button above that says, “Badge Resale Registration is OPEN”. This link will not be active until registration opens.

For 2011 badge resale, EPIC registration has developed an online waiting room where you will be placed in line (in the order you arrived) to enter the online registration session to purchase badges. After you select the link above, you will be redirected to the EPIC registration website and their online waiting room.

  • Your browser should have JavaScript and cookies enabled to function reliably with the waiting room. These features are usually enabled in the default configuration of most modern web browsers.
  • DO NOT MANUALLY REFRESH OR RELOAD THE WAITING ROOM PAGE IN YOUR BROWSER! Running multiple “tabs” or browser windows of the EPIC waiting room will cause you to be placed at the back of the line. If you refresh this page while in the EPIC waiting room, you will lose your spot in line and be moved to the back of the queue. It is therefore very important that you do not refresh or hit your browser’s “back” button while you are in the queue for badge registration.
  • While in the waiting room, you will be able to see your current position in line. Your number in line will automatically update every two minutes. There will also be a black registration status message with yellow text. EPIC registration will monitor badge sales closely and update this status message when inventory is running low. Should badges sell out before you are placed in your online registration session, this message will notify you.
  • You may be able to purchase up to two 4-day Comic-Con badges during your online registration session, while supplies last. If you would like to buy an additional badge for a guest, you must complete your first transaction and pay for your badge before you may purchase an additional badge. You will not have to return to the waiting room for your second purchase. Due to overwhelming demand for 2011 badges, all badge categories may be sold out before you have the option to purchase an additional badge.
  • Once you have been moved from the waiting room to your online registration session, you will enter your name and contact information. Please enter your full legal name as shown on your valid photo ID. You will be required to show a photo ID that matches the name on your barcode confirmation when picking up your badge.
  • After your contact information has been submitted, you may select your desired badge category: Adult, Junior, Senior, or Military. After agreeing to the Cancellation, Refund, and Exchange Policy, you will be prompted to enter your credit card information and review the accuracy of your order. If all information is correct, please type “AGREE” in the box below after reviewing the “Terms and Conditions,” then click the [Process My Registration] button at the bottom of this page. Upon submitting your order, your credit card will immediately be charged.
  • Print this page for your records, then select the [Purchase Another Badge] button to buy an additional badge, or click on [Return to Comic-Con Website] to exit the EPIC registration session.
  • You will receive a barcode e-mail confirmation from EPIC registration for your purchase, sent to the e-mail address you provided during registration. Please be sure to add registration@epicreg.com to your e-mail contacts or address book so the confirmation does not go to your SPAM folder.

Good Luck Everyone!

More 2011 SDCC Attendee Badge Resale Info

Comic-Con International announced on Twitter:

This is NOT the hour notice, but for more information on the future Attendee badge resale: bit.ly/cc11resales #SDCC

So we go to their website and find out what we already know so far…

There will be NO ONSITE REGISTRATION!

New Info and explanations…

This Button Will Be Active When Resale Registration Opens

Comic-Con International will be selling returned 4-day badges (without Preview Night) through EPIC online registration. Single-day badges will be available at a later date — for information on single-day badges, check the Comic-Con website frequently for updates, or follow us on Twitter at http://twitter.com/comic_con for registration announcements.

A number of attendees have brought to our attention the fact that many people purchasing 4-day badges are not planning to attend all four days, while many people who want to attend all four days are forced to buy single-day badges at a higher price. In response, Comic-Con will no longer be offering a discount for 4-day badge purchases. Instead, a 4-day badge and four single-day badges will be the same price. We hope that this change will encourage people to purchase only the days they will actually be attending, leaving additional badges for others who want to attend Comic-Con.

A 4-day adult badge without Preview Night will be sold at the non-discounted rate of $137 which includes a $6 reprocessing fee. Junior, Senior, and Military 4-day badges without Preview Night will be sold at the non-discounted rate of $68 each.

You may purchase up to TWO 4-day badges only.
