Exclusive Warner Bros. Television Screenings
For the fourth straight year, Warner Bros. Television kicks off WonderCon with preview screenings of fan-favorite series. For 2013, WBTV will unveil the world premiere of new, previously unaired episodes of the first-year hit dramas Revolution, from creator Eric Kripke (Supernatural) and J. J. Abrams’s Bad Robot Productions (Fringe, Lost); Arrow, from executive producers Greg Berlanti (Golden Boy), Marc Guggenheim (Green Lantern), and Andrew Kreisberg (Fringe); and The Following, from creator/executive producer Kevin Williamson (The Vampire Diaries) and executive producer Marcos Siega (The Vampire Diaries); in addition to the never-before-seen series premiere episode of Warner Bros. Animation’s new Teen Titans Go!

  • Revolution — In this epic adventure from J. J. Abrams’s Bad Robot Productions and Supernatural‘s Eric Kripke, a family struggles in an American landscape where every piece of technology-computers, planes, cars, phones, even lights-has mysteriously blacked out forever. A drama with sweeping scope and intimate focus, Revolution is a swashbuckling journey of hope and rebirth seen through the eyes of one strong-willed young woman, Charlie Matheson (Being Human‘s Tracy Spiridakos) and her brother, Danny (Graham Rogers). When Danny is kidnapped by militia leaders for a darker purpose, Charlie reconnects with her estranged uncle, Miles (Twilight‘s Billy Burke), a former U.S. Marine living a reclusive life. Together with a rogue band of survivors, they set out to rescue Danny, overthrow the militia, and ultimately reestablish the United States of America. All the while, they explore the enduring mystery of why the power failed and if-or how-it will ever return. The series also stars Giancarlo Esposito, Zak Orth, David Lyons, Daniella Alonso, JD Pardo, Tim Guinee, and Elizabeth Mitchell. From Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Bad Robot Productions, Kripke Enterprises, and Warner Bros. Television, Revolution airs Mondays at 10/9c on NBC.
  • Arrow — The CW’s most-watched series premiere since The Vampire Diaries in 2009, Arrow stars Stephen Amell as billionaire Oliver Queen, who, after being marooned for five years on a remote island, returns home with a mysterious agenda and lethal set of new skills that he uses in a war on crime. Reinventing the DC Comics character for a modern-day audience, the Arrow is not a superhero…but a hero, every bit as dangerous as the criminals he’s hunting. This hard-hitting action series also stars Katie Cassidy, Colin Donnell, David Ramsey, and Willa Holland, with Susanna Thompson and Paul Blackthorne. Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Andrew Kreisberg are executive producers of the series, based on characters appearing in comic books and graphic novels published by DC Comics. Arrow is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television and airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on The CW.
  • The Following — Golden Globe winner and Emmy nominee Kevin Bacon stars in this terrifying new psychological thriller from creator/executive producer Kevin Williamson (Scream) and executive producer Marcos Siega (The Vampire Diaries). In The Following, Bacon plays psychologically scarred ex-FBI agent Ryan Hardy, who’s drawn back into an ever-growing web of murder and madness masterminded by serial killer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy, Rome), who brought an end to Hardy’s career years before. In addition to Bacon and Purefoy, The Following also stars Natalie Zea, Annie Parisse, Shawn Ashmore, Valorie Curry, Adan Canto, Nico Tortorella, and Kyle Catlett. From Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Outerbanks Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television, The Following airs Mondays at 9/8c on FOX.
  • Teen Titans Go! — The Teen Titans are returning to Cartoon Network with all-new comedic adventures, and this time they’re giving viewers a look at what life is really like as a teen super hero…once the cape comes off. Inspired by the original Teen Titans series from Warner Bros. Animation that ran for five seasons, the character-driven comedy focuses on the funny that happens in between saving the world and living together as teenagers without adult supervision. The comedic mayhem of the animated series is punctuated by pranks and the occasional need to fight crime, but it will also deal with the everyday issues of adolescence. With epic staring contests to decide who does the laundry, a series of quests and battles to construct the perfect sandwich or fighting crime in Jump City, one thing is for sure: These Titans will always be ready for an adventure — inside the house and out. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, Teen Titans Go! features the principal voice cast from the original series — Greg Cipes, Scott Menville, Tara Strong, Hynden Walch and Khary Payton — with Sam Register (MAD, Teen Titans, Batman: The Brave and The Bold) serving as executive producer and Michael Jelenic (ThunderCats) and Aaron Horvath (MAD) serving as producers. Teen Titans Go! will premiere on Cartoon Network in April.

Not Guilty by Reason of Zombification? Law and Forensic Psychiatry After the Zombie Apocalypse
During a “zombie apocalypse,” humans play by a new set of rules — or no rules at all. Zombies kill humans, humans hunt zombies, and humans murder other humans — with no legal repercussions. But suppose the zombie apocalypse ended after eradication of the zombies or the discovery of a cure that rejoined the dead with the living. When society’s laws are restored, what would happen if humans, zombies, and former zombies alike stood trial for their actions? Would any of them be found guilty, or would the circumstances of the apocalypse excuse crimes like theft, breaking and entering, misuse of a corpse, murder, and cannibalism? What legal defenses might apply? Join the forensic psychiatrists of Broadcast Thought, H. Eric Bender, M.D., Praveen R. Kambam, M.D., and Vasilis K. Pozios, M.D., and the lawyers of Law and the Multiverse, James Daily, J.D. and Ryan Davidson, J.D. (The Law of Superheroes) as they examine the legal issues faced by a post-zombie-apocalyptic world. In a mock trial, the lawyers will be the prosecution and defense, the doctors will be the expert witnesses, and you will be the jury. Will the walking dead be found guilty, or will they walk free?

LGBTQ Subtext in Comics, Sci-Fi and Fantasy
LGBTQ subtext has almost always existed in comics, films and TV shows-from Dr. Wertham’s writings on Batman and Robin to audiences’ musings on Star Wars, Xena, Buffy, Doctor Who and the current Once Upon A Time TV show. “Wink-wink, nudge-nudge” asides, glances and dialogue still get fans talking and slash fictioners “slashing.” Subtext is a legitimate literary and artistic device. But now with the greater prominence and acceptance of LGBTQ characters in media, subtext has even more opportunity to become “maintext.” Will subtext ever come out of the closet? Will the prince ever get the prince-or the princess her princess? How often is subtext in the mind of the beholder? Join Prism Comics and Marc Andreyko (Black Lightning and Blue Devil, Manhunter), Brad Bell (Husbands), Jane Espenson (Buffy, Once Upon A Time, Husbands), Wendy Pini (Elfquest, Masque of the Red Death), and moderator Jody Wheeler (DoorQ, Bent-Con), as they explore how creators and audiences balance queer subtext.

IDW Announces an All-New, Ongoing Comic Book Series — Womanthology

At WonderCon, IDW Publishing announced the launch of an all-new, ongoing Womanthology comic book series, inspired from Womanthology: Heroic, the hit anthology graphic novel created from an idea by artist Renae De Liz (The Last Unicorn) that went on to be one of Kickstarters most funded comics projects. The new ongoing series, Womanthology: Space! will debut with its first issue in September 2012.

“Womanthology: Heroic was such a big, wonderful experience, and not in my wildest dreams could I have hoped that it would go on to further adventures! I hope that Womanthology: Space! is just the start of a long line of amazing books that further open doors for women in comics everywhere. I hope this will be a continued outlet to have their work showcased and appreciated, and help many take that next big step towards a career in comics,” said project manager, De Liz. “Again there will be all ages and experience levels accepted. This has always been so important to me, as I know first hand how even one show of support can offer so much confidence and motivation in your work. This not only helps aspiring creators gain valuable experiences and a platform to help further careers, but it also allows established professionals to reach out and lend their comics knowledge and know how. I am so glad that the positivity and fun of Womanthology is going further, this time into Space!”

Produced entirely by women, and showcasing the works of over 140 creators of all ages and experience levels, Womanthology: Heroic became a unique experience for unknown creators to work with established professionals and to show the wide variety of work by women in comics. Womanthology: Space! will continue that path and feature work by well-known creators and newcomers, such as Blair Butler, Fiona Staples, Jessica Hickman, Bonnie Burton, Ming Doyle, Stacie Ponder, and many more. Each issue will present three stories, focusing on the theme of the series, “Space”, where creators will use the concept and a sub-theme to inform and inspire their individual story. In addition, the series will also include pinups and ongoing mini-comics by different artists, as well as tips from professionals.

“We’re extremely excited about the ongoing and continuing to showcase the talented and inspiring work by women in the industry at all levels. Whether they’re just starting out or seasoned veterans, these creators all have something to say with their stories and being able to offer them this opportunity just shows that a little idea can make a huge difference,” said editor Mariah Huehner. “Heroic was such an incredible experience and Renae is, without exaggerating, an incredible person and artist who deserves a huge round of applause for making a real difference. We knew Heroic wasn’t the end, so join us in Space!.”

WOMANTHOLOGY: HEROIC ($50.00, 300 pages; 9” x 13”; hardcover) is now available for sale. ISBN 978-1-61377-147-1.

WOMANTHOLOGY: SPACE! #1 will be available in September 2012.

Legend of the Seeker is based on the Terry Goodkind fantasy book series, The Sword of Truth. After only two seasons, the show was unfortunately cancelled in April 2010. Fans quickly launched a “Save Our Seeker” campaign to renew the show, and continue to fight for the series. Hosting fan tables at all the cons is just one of the many ways the fans have contributed in spreading the word. This year, we are so excited that Craig Horner’s appearance will make the WonderCon table bigger than ever.
