Angry Birds Star Wars II - Hasbro - Telepods - Rovio Entertainment - Lucasfilm - Header - MDHasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS) announced that it reached the milestone of one million TELEPODS figures in consumers’ hands around the globe. TELEPODS, the digital gaming platform for the mobile generation, launched with the new ANGRY BIRDSTM STAR WARS® II game from Rovio Entertainment and Lucasfilm, which became available less than one month ago underscoring the success of this accomplishment and popularity of the innovative new platform. Hasbro’s TELEPODS uses new technology to allow kids to play in two ways: in the physical space and through full and unprecedented integration into top-tier apps.

Angry Birds Star Wars II - Hasbro - Telepods - Rovio Entertainment - Lucasfilm - Telepod your figures into the appEvery copy of the ANGRY BIRDS STAR WARS II app includes a “TELEPODS” mode that allows users of smart devices with front-facing cameras to “teleport” their Angry Birds Star Wars TELEPODS figures into the game. For the first time in ANGRY BIRDS history players can choose which characters they want to use to complete a level by using TELEPODS including Rebel Birds and Imperial Pigs. Fans download the app, tap the TELEPODS icon in the app, place one of the more than 30 ANGRY BIRDS STAR WARS figures on the included TELEPODS base, and then place the base on a smart device to immediately “teleport” that figure into the game. Players can also unlock new characters in the app with TELEPODS as well as an assortment of super powers, enhancing the digital gameplay experience.

“With one million TELEPODS figures in consumers’ hands and counting, we are thrilled with the response from kids around the world to the new TELEPODS platform,” said John Frascotti, Global Chief Marketing Officer, Hasbro. “We continue to work closely with entertainment leaders like Rovio and Lucasfilm to drive seamless physical to digital app integration with our TELEPODS platform and are excited by what the future holds for this innovative experience.”

Angry Birds Star Wars II - Star Destroyer - Hasbro - Telepods - Rovio Entertainment - LucasfilmConsumers are already gearing up for the launch of ANGRY BIRDS GO!, a new app franchise recently revealed by Rovio that will also feature TELEPODS technology. Some of the one million figures around the globe that consumers have purchased include figures for the upcoming ANGRY BIRDS GO! title speaking to the excitement fans have for TELEPODS integration in a highly anticipated new game. Rovio will provide consumers with an exclusive first look to the new experience via a dedicated “COUNTDOWN TO ANGRY BIRDS GO!” app integrated with TELEPODS technology at the end of October. The Cost of SDCC (Start Saving Now!)

Great info for those wanting to see how much one should save up for a trip to Comic-Con!

Nerdophiles

Here’s the biggest thing to remember about San Diego Comic Con: start saving now.

Trust me, it’ll save you a lot of stress in the long run. The last thing you’re going to want to be thinking about when you get to the con is how much money you can’t spend because you haven’t properly budgeted up to this point. The rest of the Nerdophiles staff drove to Comic Con this year, but I’m from Maryland and I had to fly in – making for some unique challenges and some unique considerations when budgeting. I’m breaking down my expenses, so that you can better think about and plan for your own. After all, we’re less than a year away from San Diego Comic Con 2014!

More Comic-Con 2013 Exclusives from Hasbro!

Hasbro brings us four more exclusives for Comic-Con 2013. First there’s My Little Pony‘s DJ Pon-3 which will be $49.99 at the Hasbro booth. The next item is Jem from Jem and the Holograms. This is the “Glitter N’ Gold” figure priced at $140. The third exclusive is Marvel LegendsThunderbolts set priced at $89.99 for  Luke Cage, Crossbones, Ghost, Moonstone and Judith Chambers.

A limited supply of exclusives will be available at HasbroToyShop.com after the convention.

My Little Pony

Hasbro - My Little Pony - Friendship is Magic - DJ Pon-3 - Comic-Con 2013 - SDCC ExclusivesA fan favorite who first appeared in the first season of Friendship is Magic on the Hub Network, DJ Pon-3 ($49.99) makes her debut with a Comic-Con exclusive — and a shiny one at that. In addition to a musical note as her “cutie mark,” her sunglasses and unicorn horn are embellished with Swarovski crystal elements that tie into the year’s theme of the Crystal Empire.

Even DJ Pon-3‘s special packaging lights up, says Hasbro’s Donna Tobin, senior vice president, global brand marketing for My Little Pony. “Everything about her offering really enhances her character.”

Hasbro hosts a panel at Comic-Con featuring voice talent from the show, previews a fall line of toys at its booth and offers a poll where fans can elect their favorite pony from the “mane six” — Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Rainbow Dash and Applejack — and record testimonials at a video booth before the vote goes live at Hubworld.com/vote4ponies on July 22.+++

Jem and the Holograms

Hasbro - Jem and the Holograms - Glitter-n-Gold - Comic-Con 2013 - SDCC ExclusivesJem, the pink-haired ’80s cartoon rocker, made a “truly outrageous” return to pop culture last summer at Comic-Con with a high-end collectible figure from Hasbro and Integrity Toys. She sold out quickly, so Jem’s coming back glammed out with a special “Glitter N’ Gold” figure ($140) that’s a nod to a version from her original era. This time, though, she comes with more detail, a better and more realistic sculpt, and accessories including an extra dress and a record trophy.

Marvel Legends

Hasbro - Marvel Legends - Comic-Con 2013 - SDCC Exclusives - Luke Cage - Crossbones - Ghost - Moonstone - Judith ChambersHasbro - Marvel Legends - Comic-Con 2013 - SDCC Exclusives - Box - Packaging - Luke Cage - Crossbones - Ghost - Moonstone - Judith ChambersThe Hasbro team was excited by the idea of doing a Thunderbolts set ($89.99) of 6-inch figures inspired by the comic-book art of Kev Walker and based on the Marvel team of superpowered anti-heroes — Avengers member Luke Cage and the reformed super-criminals Crossbones, Ghost, Moonstone and Judith Chambers — that work for the government.

G.I. Joe/Transformers

Hasbro - G.I. Joe - Transformers - Box - Packaging - Baroness - Ravage - Snake Eyes - Autobot Blaster - Skystriker - Jetfire - Vamp - Hound - Bludgeon Samurai RobotThis year’s G.I. Joe/Transformers exclusive ($99.99) is the third and final installment in a special series of annual mash-ups.

Paying homage to a G.I. Joe/Transformers comic-book miniseries in the ’80s, the set includes a Skystriker in the colors of the Autobot Jetfire and a G.I. Joe V.A.M.P. vehicle retooled to reflect Hound, a cult favorite whose original automobile form was that of an Army Jeep.

To pair with the vehicles, the set stars the Cobra femme fatale Baroness with the Decepticon character Ravage, G.I. Joe ninja Snake Eyes with an Autobot logo on his outfit, the Autobot Blaster in his boom-box form and his tapes, and a robotic samurai warrior with a skeleton head in the colors of the Decepticon Bludgeon.

Disney is RUMORED to Buy Hasbro…

Last week, Disney and George Lucas shocked everyone by announcing that Lucas had sold LucasFilm, the rights to the Star Wars films and its characters to Disney for approximately $4 billion. This week, rumors are flying that Disney may possibly buy Hasbro! Disney would then become somewhat of a monopoly of gigantic proportions to entertainment (theme parks and movies) and its merchandising of products (toys and games)!

The Lucasfilm acquisition has been reported as taking only 6 months to complete, so these discussions with Hasbro are probably pretty serious. This can definitely impact the entertainment industry in a big way. Disney would get the rights to the Transformers, G.I. Joe, My Little Pony, Dungeons and Dragons and several other tv/movie/game/toy franchises. It would definitely broaden their audience and also bring back some franchises back to Disney to be under one roof.

It seemed for a time that Disney was losing its grip on their audience until it acquired Pixar. There seemed to be too many “princess” movies and not enough movies that boys would like. Marvel and Star Wars have definitely changed that picture. Will prices for Disney-owned merchandise go up significantly as well? Hopefully not, but only time will tell.

If all this does come to pass, what happens to The Hub (and other shows) and the comics with IDW and Dark Horse? Do they all go away? Or will Disney incorporated everything? There are still a lot of questions to be answered here. Hopefully, most entities will stay in place in some way. Overall, it’s good for Disney, hopefully it will be good for fans as well.
