FOX Gives Series Order to New Action-Adventure Drama HIEROGLYPH!

Hieroglyph - Fox - Travis Beacham - Header - SMHigh-Concept, Epic Series Features Ancient Egypt as Backdrop for Palace Intrigue, Quests for Power and World of Magic, Gods and Goddesses

20th Century Fox Television and Chernin Entertainment to Produce Series; Screenwriter Travis Beacham (“Pacific Rim”) to Write and Executive-Produce; Miguel Sapochnik (“Fringe”) to Direct Premiere Episode

Fox Broadcasting Company (FOX) has given a 13-episode series order to HIEROGLYPH, a fantastical action-adventure show produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Chernin Entertainment, and executive-produced by Peter Chernin (NEW GIRL, Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Katherine Pope (NEW GIRL) and Travis Beacham (Pacific Rim, Clash of the Titans), who wrote the pilot script. Miguel Sapochnik (Repo Men, Fringe) will serve as an executive producer on the project and will direct the premiere episode. Production is scheduled to begin in early 2014.

Set in ancient Egypt, where fantasy and reality intertwined, HIEROGLYPH follows a notorious thief who is plucked from prison to serve the Pharoah, navigating palace intrigue, seductive concubines, criminal underbellies and even a few divine sorcerers.

“We wanted to do a show about deceit, sex, intrigue in the court and fantastical goings-on – no better place to set that than ancient Egypt,” said Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment for FOX. “Travis Beacham has an inventive mind, and he has wrapped this all together in this intoxicating new drama.”

Based on his original story idea, Travis Beacham co-wrote the screenplay with director Guillermo Del Toro for this past summer’s sci-fi hit Pacific Rim, which has grossed more than $400 million worldwide since its release in July. Beacham also co-wrote the screenplay for the hit 2010 re-imagining of the classic mythic adventure Clash of the Titans, directed by Louis Leterrier. Beacham is currently writing the sequel to Pacific Rim for Legendary. He has penned screenplays for the feature films 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo and a remake of the sci-fi classic, The Black Hole.

Chernin Entertainment produces television programs and feature films. Its current television slate includes FOX’s NEW GIRL. The company’s first feature film, Rise of Planet of the Apes, was released in August 2011 and has grossed more than $480 million at the worldwide box office. Chernin Entertainment is currently producing the sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, as well as the sequel to its successful summer comedy, The Heat.

A 21st Century Fox company, Twentieth Century Fox Television is one of the industry’s most prolific suppliers of primetime television programming and entertainment content, including the blockbuster and Emmy Award- and Golden Globe Award-winning Modern Family, the pop culture phenomenon and Golden Globe Award-winning GLEE, the celebrated anthology series American Horror Story, the hit comedies NEW GIRL and How I Met Your Mother and the longest running primetime scripted series in the history of television, THE SIMPSONS. The studio recently resurrected its Emmy Award-winning cult hit Arrested Development, and its cable production division, Fox 21, is responsible for the Emmy Award- and Golden Globe Award-winning Homeland. The studio’s newest drama, SLEEPY HOLLOW, has garnered critical acclaim, high ratings and was the first freshman show of the season to earn a renewal.

HIEROGLYPH is produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Chernin Entertainment. The series is created, written and executive-produced by Travis Beacham. Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope, as well as Miguel Sapochnik, who will direct the premiere episode, also serve as executive producers.

Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions (Fringe, Lost). Additionally, fans will be able to see the series premiere episode of Warner Bros. Animation’s new Teen Titans Go!  Arena

  • Arrow - The CW - Warner Bros. - CBS - Key Art - Poster 001Arrow: The CW’s most watched series premiere since The Vampire Diaries in 2009, Arrow stars Stephen Amell as billionaire Oliver Queen, who — after being marooned for five years on a remote island — returns home with a mysterious agenda and lethal set of new skills that he uses in a war on crime. Reinventing the DC Comics character for a modern-day audience, the Arrow is not a super hero … but a hero, every bit as dangerous as the criminals he’s hunting. This hard-hitting action series also stars Katie Cassidy, Colin Donnell, David Ramsey and Willa Holland, with Susanna Thompson and Paul Blackthorne. Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg are executive producers of the series, based upon characters appearing in comic books and graphic novels published by DC Comics. Arrow is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television and airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on The CW. Become a fan of Arrow on Facebook at www.facebook.com/CWArrow and follow the show on Twitter at @CW_Arrow.
  • The Following - Warner Bros. - FOX - PosterThe Following: Golden Globe winner and Emmy® nominee Kevin Bacon stars in this terrifying new psychological thriller from creator/executive producer Kevin Williamson (Scream) and executive producer Marcos Siega (The Vampire Diaries). In The Following, Bacon plays psychologically scarred ex-FBI agent Ryan Hardy, who’s drawn back into an ever-growing web of murder and madness masterminded by serial killer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy, Rome), who brought an end to Hardy’s career years before. In addition to Bacon and Purefoy, The Following also stars Natalie Zea, Annie Parisse, Shawn Ashmore, Valorie Curry, Adan Canto, Nico Tortorella and Kyle Catlett. From Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Outerbanks Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television, The Following airs Mondays at 9/8c on FOX. • Revolution - Warner Bros. - NBC - PosterRevolution: In this epic adventure from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and Supernatural’s Eric Kripke, a family struggles in an American landscape where every single piece of technology — computers, planes, cars, phones, even lights — has mysteriously blacked out forever. A drama with sweeping scope and intimate focus, Revolution is a swashbuckling journey of hope and rebirth seen through the eyes of one strong-willed young woman, Charlie Matheson (Being Human’s Tracy Spiridakos), and her brother Danny (Graham Rogers). When Danny is kidnapped by militia leaders for a darker purpose, Charlie reconnects with her estranged uncle, Miles (Twilight’s Billy Burke), a former U.S. Marine living a reclusive life. Together with a rogue band of survivors, they set out to rescue Danny, overthrow the militia and ultimately re-establish the United States of America. All the while, they explore the enduring mystery of why the power failed and if — or how — it will ever return. The series also stars Giancarlo Esposito, Zak Orth, David Lyons, Daniella Alonso, JD Pardo, Tim Guinee and Elizabeth Mitchell. From Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Bad Robot Productions, Kripke Enterprises and Warner Bros. Television, Revolution airs Mondays at 10/9c on NBC. • Teen Titans Go - Warner Bros. - Cartoon Network - Poster MDTeen Titans Go!: The Teen Titans are returning to Cartoon Network with all-new comedic adventures, and this time they’re giving viewers a look at what life is really like as a teen super hero… once the cape comes off. Inspired by the original Teen Titans series from Warner Bros. Animation that ran for five seasons, the character-driven comedy — based upon DC Comics characters — focuses on the funny that happens in between saving the world and living together as teenagers without adult supervision. The comedic mayhem of the animated series is punctuated by pranks and the occasional need to fight crime, but it will also deal with the everyday issues of adolescence. With epic staring contests to decide who does the laundry, a series of quests and battles to construct the perfect sandwich or fighting crime in Jump City, one thing is for sure: These Titans will always be ready for an adventure — inside the house and out. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, Teen Titans Go! features the principal voice cast from the original series — Greg Cipes, Scott Menville, Tara Strong, Hynden Walch and Khary Payton — with Sam Register (MAD, Teen Titans, Batman: The Brave and The Bold) serving as executive producer and Michael Jelenic (ThunderCats) and Aaron Horvath (MAD) serving as producers. Teen Titans Go! will premiere Tuesday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on Cartoon Network, with rebroadcasts running in the DC Nation block on Saturday mornings at 10:30 a.m. ET/PT, beginning April 27. Join these “revolutionaries” as they reveal exclusive information about the remaining episodes of the first season. From Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Bad Robot Productions, Kripke Enterprises and Warner Bros. Television, Revolution returns March 25 and airs Mondays at 10/9c on NBC. Fox announced late last night that there will be no second season of Terra Nova! It’s safe to assume the cast is already looking to book future projects. (There is no official press release at this time.) This seems to be the growing trend for Fox this year–keeping crap, ending good shows. House won’t be coming back but Alcatraz is doing okay (so far). This gives Alcatraz a fighting chance for a second season. We can hope that Bones will stay, but Touch and The Finder don’t look too healthy either.

Even though Terra Nova may have been canceled by Fox, 20th Century Television is shopping the market to bring Terra Nova to another network. The network originally had until December 31 to decide on a second season but picked up the options on the actors’ contracts to extend their time. They couldn’t wait any longer to make a decision because production needed to begin this month to complete a planned 22-episode second season.

What do you think? Should Terra Nova be saved? Comment if you like. More info to come as it becomes available.
